Players learn to control the puck while under pressure from a defender.
Pair up players of similar skill and give one a puck.
How it Works
Coach blows his whistle or says “Go.”
At first, just have the two players try to keep the puck away from each other.
The player can skate anywhere on the ice and the other person has to try and keep up and get the puck away.
When the puck is taken away, the defender goes on offense with the puck and the previous offensive player now plays defense.
Players keep alternating until drill is over.
Run drill for 5-10 minutes.
If players aren’t great at puckhandling yet, you can alter this drill and just have the defender bother the player with the puck but not take it away from them. You would then blow the whistle to have the players switch from offense to defense and defense to offense.
