Setup

  • Players form two lines in front of each net.
  • Give each line a puck (or several pucks, if available.)
Hit the Net Hockey Shooting Drill

How it Works

  1. Coach blows his whistle or says “Go.”
  2. First player in each line shoots the puck on net.
  3. Shooter skates to the back of the opposite line.
  4. Players continue shooting until coach blows whistle to end the drill.
  5. Run the drill for 5-8 minutes.

Coaching Tips

  • Coaching points for the wrist shot should be:  Make sure the player’s shoulders are aimed at the target to start – Player should draw the puck back- Player should slide it forward and push the puck away. He shouldn’t slap at it!
  • To make this drill more fun you can have the players stay in the same line and keep track of how many goals each line scores so that there is a winning line.
